Administration
The Office of the Principal Director of Audit (Oil & Gas), formerly known as the Director General of Commercial Audit, Mumbai, exercises audit jurisdiction over Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Government Companies, Autonomous Bodies, Statutory Corporations and grantee organisations under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG).
The major Government companies under the audit jurisdiction of this Office include Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), GAIL (India) Limited, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL), and Engineers India Limited (EIL). The Office also audits Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB), Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) and other Autonomous Bodies, Statutory Corporations and organisations under the administrative control of MoPNG.
The audit work of the Office contributes to ensuring financial discipline, improving operational efficiency and promoting accountability in the petroleum and natural gas sector.
The Office was established in May 1986. Its Central Office is located in Mumbai, with a Branch Office at New Delhi.
The Principal Director is assisted by four Group Officers, as detailed below:
Two Group Officers at Mumbai: Deputy Director (Administration & Downstream) and Deputy Director (Upstream).
Two Group Officers at New Delhi Branch Office: Director (Downstream) and Deputy Director (Natural Gas).
The Principal Director exercises overall control, supervision and monitoring over the activities of the Central Office and Branch Office and ensures effective coordination and supervision of audit functions.
The Central Office is located at 8th Floor, C-25, Audit Bhavan, Bandra-Kurla Complex, near GST Office, Mumbai – 400 051.
